More about fire safety

Fire alarms can save lives
We always equip out properties with fire alarms. If you do not have a fire alarm in your apartment, please contact your caretaker and he/she will ensure that one is fitted. Tenants are responsible for testing the function of the fire alarm regularly. Just hold the button in and the alarm will sound after a few seconds.

No storage of goods in common locations
It is not permitted to store goods, park bicycles or other items, in common locations such as stair wells, washing rooms, cellar passages, corridors, galleries, etc. These areas must be freely accessible in case of an evacuation, transport of injured persons, fire fighting, etc. You must never block the passage through evacuation routes, fire doors or similar, either.

We encourage you to always report problems with fire doors, blocked evacuation routes, faulty lighting in evacuation signs, or anything else which you think might effect fire safety. You can make such reports either directly to your caretaker, via our home page or by telephone.

Barbequing on balconies
Barbequing on balconies and close to buildings is not permitted. Please use the grilling areas provided.

Driving cars in the housing area
All entrances and roads within the housing areas are to be considered as rescue routes. They must never be blocked. During removals, you may leave your car parked for a short period of time for loading or unloading, but you must always have it under observation.

Storage of flammable goods
Remember that there are special regulations concerning the storage of flammable goods (i.e. petrol, grill lighter fluid, concentrated windscreen washer liquid, etc.). If you need to know more, ask your caretaker.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Remember to extinguish candles when leaving your apartment.
  • TV’s should have plenty of space around them. Never place tablecloths, flowers or candles on them.
  • Do not leave electrical appliances turned on while you are asleep, or away from your apartment.
  • Clean the kitchen fan filter regularly.
  • Make sure the cooker is turned off before leaving home.
  • Always make sure that doors to common areas such as the cellar and loft are closed properly when you leave the area. This reduces the risk for fire or burglary.

If you wish to know more about how you can make your apartment safer, and the responsibility that tenants have, you can check out Räddningstjänsten Syds (Rescue Services South) home page.
