Good opportunities to secure student accommodation for the start of the autumn semester
The new Lund University students, known as Novisch students, received their admission offers at the end of last week. Around 2,650 of them have now joined AF Bostäder’s novisch queue, which gives priority access to at least 900 student accommodation units.
The novisch priority scheme means that most accommodation becoming available over the summer is reserved for Novisch students whose permanent home addresses are outside the Skåne region. To ensure everyone has an equal chance, queue positions are allocated by lottery. The draw has now been completed.
This year, around 2,650 Novisch students have joined the housing queue and taken part in the lottery. Demand has therefore decreased for the third consecutive year, reflecting the lower number of students admitted to Lund University. Our ambition is once again to offer accommodation to at least 900 Novisch students.
“Since many Novisch students arrange accommodation through other means, we believe that housing demand is likely to be met this year as well,” says Claes Hjortronsteen, Rental Manager at AF Bostäder.
For Lund as a whole, there is also expected to be a sufficient supply of student accommodation to meet demand this year. This is confirmed in an updated housing report produced jointly with Lund University's LU Accommodation.
“The report shows that Lund not only offers attractive educational opportunities but also provides housing solutions for the many students who come here from across the world. During the summer, we have also had 150 vacant corridor rooms, which now help meet the demand,” says Claes Hjortronsteen.
AF Bostäder is working long-term to meet the housing needs of Lund University students. During the year, Troja at Kämnärsrätten in northern Lund will be completed.
“Troja is our largest construction project since the 1970s. Once completed this autumn, it will provide accommodation for a further 500 Lund University students,” concludes Claes Hjortronsteen.
