Microforest at Kämnärsrätten

In November, we will create a 400-square-metre microforest between Hippocampus and Sagoeken on Kämnärsvägen. Trees and shrubs will grow closely together, creating a greener outdoor environment. The aim is to provide more space for plants and insects, make the area more pleasant to live in and help it adapt to the climate of the future.

Timeline

The microforest will be created in November 2026.

About the microforest

The microforest will cover an area of approximately 400 square metres between Hippocampus and Sagoeken.

A microforest is different from traditional tree planting. Many different trees and shrubs are planted close together in a small area. The plants support each other's growth and, over time, form a dense and diverse woodland.

We will plant a wide variety of trees and shrubs, including English oak, silver birch, Sargent's cherry, Cornelian cherry, broad-leaved cockspur thorn and Japanese larch. The microforest will also feature several varieties of magnolia, cherry laurel, alpine currant, fly honeysuckle, Japanese hemlock and yew.

During the first few years, we will care for the plants to help them get established. As the trees grow, we will remove some plants to make more room for the trees that will form the future woodland.

The microforest is part of our work to increase biodiversity and create more green spaces at Kämnärsrätten. The trees and shrubs can also provide shade on hot days and help the ground absorb rainwater during heavy rainfall. In this way, the microforest will help the area adapt to a changing climate.

How the work will affect residents

The work will take place outdoors. Some noise may occur on weekdays between 8 am and 4 pm.

Parts of the outdoor areas will be temporarily closed off to allow the work to be carried out safely.
