History and fun facts
Apples (Cornus mas) have a long history in Sweden. Wild apples, which were small and sour, were already eaten during the Viking Age.
The apple originated in Central Asia, in what is now Kazakhstan. After the Ice Age, people helped spread apple trees across Europe.
Apples reached Sweden in the 12th century through monks and monasteries. At first, they were mainly grown on large estates. During the 18th century, apples became common among the general population. Today, apples are used less than they once were, despite being such a versatile fruit.
